Surveying Kent, from the Medway to the coast.
Kent is not one ground condition, it is several, and the difference decides which survey you need. Below is where we work, why each area behaves the way it does, and what that means for a survey.
Ground conditions
Why the same survey costs different amounts in different parts of Kent.
London Clay and Weald Clay
Shrink-swell across the whole northern and central belt. A level survey in summer is not a level survey in February, and foundations are designed accordingly.
Chalk, east Kent and the Dover coast
Good drainage and predictable levels, right up until you meet a chalk cliff, a head or a buried sinkhole. Borehole and trial pit data usually has to be read alongside ours.
Marsh and alluvium, Swale and Medway
Compressible ground with real settlement risk. Levels, drainage outfalls and flood risk all matter before anything is built.
Sand, gravel and Thanet plateau
The easiest ground in the county to survey and to build on, which is why most of the surrounding development pressure lands here.
Where we work
24 districts
15 districts · listed alphabetically
Ashford
/Growth-corridor housing and large agricultural holdings, where aerial and multispectral work is often the fastest route.
Aylesford
/Tonbridge and Malling (Aylesford)
Medway Valley sites with real flood risk. Drainage, flood risk and level surveys are the core of the work here.
Broadstairs
/Thanet
Residential coastal town. Party wall, measured surveys and setting-out for housing infill.
Canterbury
/Conservation areas and listed fabric. Measured building surveys and heritage-scale point clouds feature heavily here.
Chatham
/Medway
Dense urban regeneration. Setting-out, as-built records and progress monitoring for live city-centre sites.
Cranbrook
/Tunbridge Wells
High Weald. Sand and clay with real seasonal movement, and old estate boundaries that predate the maps.
Dartford
/At the Kent end of the Thames crossings. Urban commercial, warehouse and fit-out work.
Deal
/Dover
Flat, open and heavily developed since the 1960s. Topographic work for planning and setting-out.
Dover
/Coastal, exposed and chalk. Working levels and drainage are rarely straightforward, so the field survey earns its cost.
Folkestone
/Dover
Steep terrain right down to the sea. Photogrammetry from the air often beats walking the slope.
Gillingham
/Medway
Docklands, industrial and defence-adjacent land. Detailed control and compliance measurement.
Gravesend
/Gravesham
Medway edge town. Brownfield redevelopment and industrial survey, on tightly constrained sites with live plant and buried services in the way.
Hythe
/Folkestone and Hythe
Coastal geotechnical sites and redevelopment land. Subsidence and levels are frequent concerns.
Maidstone
/County town. The largest concentration of residential and commercial survey work we handle, and usually same-day attendance.
Margate
/Thanet
Coastal Thanet with a large regeneration programme. Shoreline, levels and measured building surveys.
Ramsgate
/Thanet
Harbour, docks and town-centre sites. Metal structures and masonry are exactly where laser scanning earns its cost.
Rochester
/Medway
Historic waterfront and new-build regeneration. Measured building work alongside conventional land survey.
Sandwich
/Dover
Historic town with modern development pressure. Boundary definition comes up more often than average.
Sevenoaks
/Leafy, wooded and heavily protected. Drone work needs care around ancient woodland and conservation designations.
Sittingbourne
/Swale
Marsh and clay, with some of the most variable ground conditions in the county. Levels matter more than most.
Snodland
/Tonbridge and Malling (Snodland)
Outer Medway, orchards and farmland. Aerial mapping and volumetric work for land management.
Strood
/Medway
Western Medway approach. Residential, highway and drainage work across the Hoo peninsula.
Tonbridge
/Tonbridge and Malling
Busy market-town and commuter catchment. Building surveys, party wall evidence and setting-out.
Tunbridge Wells
/Large private plots and wooded grounds. Point clouds pay for themselves where you cannot get a total station into the garden.
