Aerial & 3D Data

LiDAR & 3D Laser Scanning

A laser scanner measures millions of points and records their position from the light that returns, rather than from a prism. That difference is why it reaches into places photogrammetry cannot go and delivers millimetre accuracy on surfaces that photographs would blur.

Typical accuracy · ±5mm on many individual scans, typically ±10mm on the registered cloud.

When you need it

  • →Vegetation hides the ground and you need the earth surface underneath.
  • →You need millimetre accuracy on geometry rather than centimetre accuracy.
  • →The subject is vertical, curved or inside a building, where overlap is impossible.
  • →A heritage, industrial or complex asset has to be captured completely.

What you get

  • Registered point cloud in E57, LAZ or LAS
  • Survey-grade control with per-scan accuracy
  • Scan position index for verification and re-registration
  • Mesh model and orthographic imagery derived on request
  • Intensity and colour data retained in the source format

How it runs

  1. 01

Scanned with a control framework agreed to the accuracy you need.

  2. 02

Targets and check points placed for independent registration proof.

  3. 03

Registration, tie point analysis and quality reporting.

  4. 04

Issue with the accuracy achieved stated, not promised.

Questions we get asked

LiDAR or photogrammetry?

Use photogrammetry where the surface is bare, open and roughly horizontal, because it is faster and cheaper. Use laser scanning where you need millimetres, where surfaces are vertical or curved, or where vegetation is in the way.

Can it see through trees?

No scanner does. What it does is record a return from the ground beneath the canopy where enough light reaches it, so you can filter the vegetation and keep the earth surface. That is the whole point.

Where we cover

Norfolk based, working nationwide. Site-based surveying, so distance is rarely the constraint.

Most requested in Norfolk, Kent & Medway, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex, Lincolnshire & the Midlands, Greater London, South East London.

Every town, district and borough we cover is listed in full on each region page. See the full service area.
