London survey work, from building sites to back gardens.

London is hard for reasons that have nothing to do with the ground. Access, restricted airspace, noise limits and the sheer density of existing records are the constraints. Every one of them is normal, and all of them are handled as part of the job rather than priced in later.

What London actually constrains

Why London survey work is scheduled, not just measured.

Access, not distance

The constraint is almost never how far you are. It is a rear site with no vehicle access, a railway embankment, a resident who parks badly, or a street where a crane needs a suspension order.

Restricted airspace

London has more controlled airspace than almost anywhere in the South East. We fly work in it routinely, and the authorisations are secured in advance of the flight rather than chased on the day. It is planned in from the start, not discovered on the day.

Party wall is routine here

Dense Victorian, Edwardian and interwar stock means neighbouring-party work is constant. Measured building surveys and condition records are what keeps it manageable.

Restricted working hours

Noise limits mean some site work cannot happen at the convenient time. Scheduling around that moves programmes, so it is worth flagging at the outset.
